First Row: Ida Josephine Sebring McDaniel (May 4, 1866-March 27, 1919)

Notes: Daughter of miner Evi Sebring and Takelma Indian Susanna Lees. Born at Forest Creek where father Evi was murdered on January 10, 1879 by her aunt Celia's husband Samuel Rath. Rath was convicted of second degree murder and sentenced to life in the Oregon State Penitentiary. Josephine and sister Almira were boarding with George Mayo aka "Kanaka George" as of the 1880 census. Josephine married George Lytle McDaniel in Redding, CA on September 21,1882, and died in Shasta County in 1919 due to Spanish Influenza.
