Year: 1893

First Row: Henry Cook Shearer (1871-1922)

Notes: Henry Cook Shearer (1871-1922). The extended Shearer family lived at Steamboat from the late 1880s into the early 20th century. The Culys were the other major family in that spectacular alpine valley. The Rifenburg & Murphy studio in Medford dissolved in March 1893. The Panic of 1893 triggered a depression lasting four years. Rifenburg briefly came back to Medford, offering drastically reduced rates for portraits in an effort to clear out inventory.
