First Row: Daniel Giles (1836-1918) and second wife Indiana Henrietta Ransom (1857-1939)

Source: Findagrave.com entry for Daniel Giles

Notes: Daniel left detailed memoirs of his time in 1853, as a 16-year-old, packing supplies to and working at a miners' store on the Applegate River, probably near the current intersection of Hamilton Road and Hwy 238. He describes early travel to "Jacksonville" (then Table Rock City) and into the Upper Applegate Valley. He tells of Chief Hart-Tish and his children, and deadly conflicts in the first Rogue River War of 1853. https://www.truwe.sohs.org/files/giles.html
