Mbhs #: 1000

Year: 1979

Location: 1261 Kubli Road

Source: Jackson County survey of historically valuable properties

Notes: Kaspar Kubli's older brother Hans Jakob arrived in 1868 and purchased the James Barnes Donation Land Claim. Jakob immigrated from Switzerland with wife Varina (Lightzinger) and four Swiss-born daughters: Varina, Barbara, Kate and Elizabeth. Son Kaspar (named after his uncle) was born here, perhaps in this home, in 1870. The younger Varina married Zach Cameron of Uniontown (i.e., Upper Applegate) while her cousin Henry married Zach's niece Maud. Kaspar Vance Kubli was the son of Kaspar Jr. and sold the property in 1997 for $189,600. Here is the surveyor's description: "The Kubli house is a small, one and one-half story, wood frame building on the west side of Kubli Road, approximately one-quarter of a mile west of the Jackson-Josephine County line. This house has a gable roof, clapboard siding, six-over-six, double hung sash windows and a lean-to on the west elevation. A hewn log structure and wood frame barn stand to the west and north of this house. Noting the type of construction and materials used, this residence may date from the mid-19th century. These buildings are situated on a portion of the J. Barnes Donation Land Claim (#58 )." Errata: these structures were actually EAST of the county line, inside Jackson County.
