Notes: Landscape photo by Russell Lee, photographer for the Farm Security Administration who photodocumented the relocation of Japanese-Americans in 1942. This shot was taken from just south of today's Valley View vineyards, looking at the farm then operated by Rolland "Sandy" and Clara Hester (McKee O'Brien) Smith. The original homestead was claimed by Melvin DeWitt Sturgess in 1859; Sturgess married Almira Ann McKee, Clara's great-great aunt, in 1865.
